We invite you to join the 2014/15 Annual Financial Campaign for PEI Family Violence Prevention. This year’s campaign will focus on funding for support groups – a very important piece for women on their journey to living a life free of violence. In a safe and supported environment, women are provided with empowering information and the tools needed to make positive changes in their lives. Perhaps the most powerful form of support – groups offer an opportunity for women to share their experiences with others facing similar challenges, reducing the feeling of isolation, so common amongst those who have suffered abuse .
“The support from the other ladies was breathtaking. I embraced it all”, Liberty Group participant.
Our support groups include: Liberty, Beyond Liberty, Coping Skills, Who Am I? & Building Relationships, Cooking Economically, and Women and the Law on PEI. They cover many valuable topics such as: why women stay, power and control issues, building trust, individual rights as women, healthy boundaries, relationships with family, relationships involving intimacy, communication and so much more.
Group programming is ongoing and available across the province in O’Leary, Summerside, Charlottetown and Montague. All support groups are facilitated by our outreach coordinators and sometimes include a guest speaker with expertise on a specific topic. All women who stay at Anderson House and/or use Community Outreach Services are encouraged to attend support groups. To ensure there are no barriers to attend group sessions, transportation and child care expenses are provided as needed.
“The group sessions are like a safe zone for women like myself. They are an extremely needed program and actually… they have saved my life”, Outreach client.
Please help us reach our goal of $24,000.
