We invite you to join the 2015/16 Annual Financial Campaign for PEI Family Violence Prevention Services (PEI FVPS). This year’s campaign will focus on funding for youth programming. Early education around healthy relationships is fundamental in breaking the cycle of violence. Investing in these important programs will help ensure a safe and healthy future for our youth. Each year we deliver our youth programs to over 500 students in junior and senior high schools across the province. With that in mind, our goal is to raise $35,000 so that we can continue to provide these important programs across Prince Edward Island.
It’s All About YOUth focuses on healthy relationships and encourages youth to examine all the various relationships in their lives. It covers healthy vs unhealthy relationships; interpersonal boundaries, feelings & communication; conflict vs disagreements; bullying/cyber bullying; media literacy; communicating assertively; self-esteem and confidence. The 6 week program is currently presented to grade 7 students at Montague Junior High, Birchwood Intermediate, Gulf Shore Consolidated, and Athena Consolidated schools.
“It was awesome. I appreciate myself a lot more. I understand relationships better.” (Program Participant)
SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) is a student driven organization. It is designed to raise awareness about the issues of relationship abuse, family violence and where to go for help. Members meet once a week and participate in various activities and community service projects. This program is currently active in Montague, Morell and Souris high schools.
“Domestic violence is a subject that isn’t often spoken about… it’s almost as though people are afraid to speak about it. SAVE is an incredible way to break the silence on the issue and spread awareness.” (Program Participant)
