Walk in Silence for Victims of Family Violence on Feb 18 , 2010

A silent walk to raise public awareness of family violence will be held in Charlottetown February 18th, says Cathy McInnis .

In addition to raising awareness of family violence issues, the walk will also show solidarity with all those groups who do so much to make our Island communities safer, Phil Matusiewicz said.

The Walk in Silence for Victims of Family Violence will be held between 12 to 12:30 on February 18th. The silent walk will begin at Province House in Charlottetown and will conclude with a reception at Charlottetown City Hall.

The impact of family violence is not limited to those directly involved, Cathy  McInnis said. The effects also extend to extended family members, friends and neighbors - and the consequences are devastating. The Walk in Silence for Victims of Family violence will be a symbolic gesture by those Islanders determined to give a voice to all victims who remain silent either as a result of fear or shame.

Prince Edward Island can lead Canada in the reduction and prevention of incidents of family violence and enjoy safer, healthier communities. Efforts like the Silent Walk help to promote an understanding of that possibility and that goal.
